Skin peel FAQS

How do superficial chemical skin peels work? 

Superficial chemical peels decrease the pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, inducing exfoliation and stimulating new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Chemical peels can also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen. Superficial peels rarely cause side effects. However, hyper-pigmentation can still occur with darker skin types.

 

How do medium and deep chemical skin peels work?

Medium and deep chemical peels cause protein coagulation and cell necrosis (cell death) in the epidermis and dermis. This induces inflammation and the wound-healing cascade, which leads to dermal regeneration including collagen stimulation. Since medium and deep chemical peels treat through to the dermis, re-epithelialization starts from the

epidermal lining outwards.

Medium and deep chemical peels require more downtime and carry with them a higher chance of side effects including hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, infection and scars. 

 

How long do the results of a skin peel last? 

The pathway to beautiful skin takes time. Whilst a single peel will give you a lovely instant glow that may last a few weeks, it takes considerably longer to address acne, scarring, ageing and deeper, textural concerns.

A course of 3 to 6 peels is recommended, combined with an AlumierMD homecare routine to enhance your results by up to 50% and maintain the long-term health of your skin after the treatment phase. 

 

Are chemical skin peels painful?

Some mild irritation, itching or sensation of heat is sometimes felt during the procedure. This wears off very quickly as the peel is neutralised. 

 

What are the common side effects of a skin peel? 

Your skin may feel dry and mildly flaky for up to 7 days after a peel as the top layer of skin is gently shed. A take home procedure kit is included in your treatment peel to help your skin post-procedure.

AlumierMD Chemical Peels 

These peels cause a chemical exfoliation at a superficial towards a superficial medium depth utilising a progressive approach and tailored to you. This delivers the results of a deeper peel but without the increased downtime and flaking that is often associated with a more aggressive peel.

Radiant 30 :  45 minutes £85 

The Radiant 30 is an alpha hydroxy acid peel containing lactic acid to exfoliate dead skin cells, boost cell turnover and stimulate collagen, improving skin texture and tone. The multi-functional peel targets skin conditions including fine lines and wrinkles, discolouration, sun damage and large pores. A 7 day take home post-procedure kit is included in the treatment. 

 

Radiant 20/10 : 45 minutes £85 

AlumierMD radiant 20/10 resurfacing peel contains a powerful combination of salicylic acid and lactic acid which improves skin tone and texture by exfoliating dead skin cells and speeding cell turnover. The multipurpose resurfacing skin peel reduces acne pimples and minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, hyper-pigmentation and sun damage.

The AlumierMD Detox Clear contains salicylic acid and lactic acid for excellent pore penetration and exfoliation.
